Teardown Continued / Finished

This happened over the course of several years and was only completed at the beginning of this year (~May, 2022). As I did not document this in real time this will be a short retrospective post.

As it was apparent that the car would require significant metal work (quarters, floor, battery apron, tail light panel, at a minimum) it was determined very early on that the car would need to be fully stripped. This required that every piece that could be removed from the car (including the glass), be removed.

There was nothing super difficult about this. The hardest part was balancing the temptation to rush through the disassembly with the desire to be methodical, take pictures, and bag and tag all hardware.

I tried my best to take pictures and bag and tag but no matter how hard you try you can never capture it. Lighting, zoom, and focus all interact to either give you a picture that you can easily follow or one that will leave you scratching your head. There are a few areas, mainly the lower dash/heater/AC box that I am dreading putting back together.

Pictures below show it during the “initial” and “final” teardown stages. Initial consisted of the interior being stripped along with the engine bay. Final consisted of removing the rear end, door mechanisms/glass, windshield, and rear glass.

Some rust under the battery tray area that will need to be dealt with…

Pictures below show the car in the final stages of disassembly.

Glass out and on a homemade dolly.
We made a stand to hold all the glass from the car. TBD if it will be reused or not as I have read that old glass and new paint don’t really look nice together. Keeping it now as it is original and date coded.
